My notes

Keep your own notes alongside Margin's, written like a page with headings, lists and maths.

My notes is where your own notes live: typed summaries, worked solutions you want to keep, or anything else you want next to Margin's notes. Open it from My notes in the sidebar.

Writing a note#

Choose New note (the + at the top of the list). A note is a page: type a title where it says Untitled, press Enter, and start writing underneath. What you see is the finished note; there is no separate preview.

Headings, lists, quotes, code and maths turn into blocks as you type:

TypeTo get
# , ## , ### A heading
- or * A bulleted list
1. A numbered list
[] A to-do list (click a box to tick it)
> A quote
``` then EnterA code block (add a language after the backticks, such as ```python)
---A divider
$x^2$Inline maths, rendered as soon as you type the closing $
$$ then EnterAn equation on its own line
**bold**, *italic*, `code`Bold, italic and inline code
Type / anywhere for a menu of every block, including Equation, Inline equation and Chemical equation; keep typing to filter it and press Enter to choose.
Maths is LaTeX rendered with KaTeX, and chemistry works with \ce{…} (for example $\ce{2H2 + O2 -> 2H2O}$). Click any equation to edit its LaTeX with a live preview; press Enter when you are done, Shift Enter for a new line, or Esc to leave it unchanged.
Hover a block to see two handles on its left: + adds a block below and opens the / menu, and the grip moves the block when you drag it, or opens a menu to turn it into another kind of block, duplicate it or delete it.
Everything saves as you type; Saved appears briefly at the top right. Notes are listed newest first, with when each was last changed. Notes are stored as Markdown, so Copy as Markdown in the ⋯ menu gives you the whole note to paste elsewhere.
Linking to a topic#
Choose Link a topic under the title to attach your note to a Margin note, searchable by name. Once linked, the topic's title shows there instead; choose it to open the topic, link a different one, or remove the link.
Deleting a note#
Choose Delete in the ⋯ menu at the top right of a note. Choose Undo in the message that appears if you change your mind.
